Tongkat Ali and it’s effects on ED and PE

“Aphrodisia for Ali’s Stick”- that is the literal translation of Tongkat Ali; and not without reason. Tongkat Ali is a herb native to Malaysia, where it has been used for centuries to enhance sexual health in primarily men, both also women. It is a well known fact, and very well researched, that T.A increases free Testosterone. What is not so well known is that it contains a β-carboline alkaloid called 9-hydroxycanthin-6-one (9-HC-6-one), which is taught to be the main reason for it’s aphrodisiac effect.

Causes and what can be done about ED

ED (erectile dysfunctioning) and PE (premature ejaculation) are problems that according to research affects 1 in 3 male adults in the United States, and we may well assume that the same is the case for the main part of the world. Both of the above are terrible conditions for those affected by it; as it may lead to reduced, or in the worst case scenario a complete stop in sexual interaction with the opposite sex.

Taking these numbers into count we may assume that such conditions are “normal” and unavoidable; however nothing could be further from he truth. If we look at ED first of all, this is a condition that likely occurs as men get older and testosterone levels drop. Society and biased research want’s to tell you that a drop in testosterone comes naturally as you grow older, and that the only “cure” to mend the problem lies in either TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) or Viagra; ideally a combination of both. This will of course fill the pockets of Big Pharma once again, but it will only make the problem worse and permanent for those affected by it.

It is indeed normal that T- levels drop with age; but it’s NOT because of age; it’s because the longer we live, the more poisons from the environment we absorb. Everywhere we turn there are chemicals messing with our hormones and reproductive system; in perfumes, plastics, clothing, personal hygiene products and you name it. It’s everywhere around us. Why isn’t there more focus on this you may say? The answer is very simple as always; if we lived a pure life without poisons there would be no need of medication; and if there is no need of medication Big Pharma won’t have their money. They live off of sick people, don’t forget that.

If we visit the Hunza Valley of Pakistan we will find men who’s fertile into their hundreds, and women who can conceive into their eighties; and why do you think this is so? Like with everything else it’s of course a combination of factors; but the very most important one is that they live in a pure environment; staying away from all kinds of commercial products, and living on a diet that mainly consists in yoghurt, fruits and whole grains.

It is our constant exposal to poisons and our(in general) low activity level that makes us infertile and weak, with ED being just the tip of the iceberg. No one can deny the connection between strength, manliness (except if induced by steroid abuse) and sexual superiority. Low T equals low drive, low confidence and weakness in general. High T is synonymous with great sexual drive, confidence and strength in all areas of life.

Why Tongkat Ali?

As mentioned in the introductory text to this article, Tongkat Ali contains an alkaloid called 9-hydroxycanthin-6-one (9-HC-6-one). This alkaloid induces penile erection and delays ejaculation, and is taught to be the main component of TA contributing to it’s aphrodisiac effect. This does not however mean that you will obtain the same results by just supplementing with chemically extracted 9-HC-6-one.

It is the total value of TA itself that makes it into such a potent natural remedy for increased manliness, better sex drive and overall health. It contains bioactive complex polypeptides (“eurypeptides” with 36 amino acids) which has been shown to activate the CYP17 enzyme (17 alpha-hydroxylase and 17,20 lyase) to enhance the metabolism of pregnenolone and progesterone to yield more DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) and androstenedione. Read the whole study on this right here.

Quite contrary to what many tend to believe, TA works in the way that it releases testosterone from it’s binding hormone SHBG (sex-hormone-binding-globulin), it doesn’t particularly increase overall T in the blood. That being said it really is pretty much irrelevant how much total testosterone is in your blood stream if it’s not free flowing. It’s only the free flowing testosterone that can do you any good in terms of increased muscle mass, sex drive and a host of other benefits.

Be careful which TA you buy

Numerous commercial tongkat ali supplements claim “extract ratios” from 1:20 to 1:200 without any information about bioactive constituents, extraction methodology (e.g. ethanol versus water), or extract purity. Alcohol extracts of eurycoma have been studied in mice for antimalarial effects of concentrated eurycomalactone [23] but also exhibit toxic effects at high doses (LD50 at 2.6 g/kg), which would preclude safe use in humans as a long-term dietary supplement [24,25]. In contrast, hot-water root extracts standardized for known bioactive components (1% eurycomanone, 22% protein, 30% polysaccharides, 35% glycosaponin) have been demonstrated to be extremely safe at high doses and for long-term consumption [2628].

Properly standardized hot-water extracts [2,26,29] have a distinctly bitter taste due to the presence of quassinoids, which are recognized as some of the bitterest compounds in nature [30,31]. Tongkat ali extracts that do not taste bitter are either not true Eurycoma longifolia root (there are many commercial examples of “fake” tongkat ali extracts) or are sub-potent in terms of bioactive constituents, and thus would also be expected to have low efficacy. Because of tongkat ali’s reputation for libido benefits, there are several examples of dietary supplements labeled as Eurycoma longifolia, but containing none of the actual root, and instead being “spiked” with prescription erectile dysfunction drugs including tadalafil/Cialis, sildenafil/Viagra, and vardenafil/Levitra [4, personal communication].
