A warning to men- Terrible news

The sperm- count in men drops alarmingly

Humanity may be facing a reproductive crisis, reports The Guardian.

In a new study report recently published in the peer-reviewed medical journal Human Reproduction Update, experts warn men.

The researchers have examined sperm samples from 42,935 men who have no known fertility problems.

The test results show that the average amount of sperm from the years 1973 to 2018 has fallen dramatically:

From 101.2 million per milliliter, to just 49 million per milliliter.

This is a drop of 51,6%

– Something is wrong with the world

An ejaculation can contain up to three hundred million cells, according to Lommelegen.

This can vary greatly from ejaculation to ejaculation, and the average has usually been around 80 to 100 million per milliliter.

If the number is less than 15 million per ejaculation, the possibility of fertilizing an egg is very small.

The main author of the study, Professor Hagai Levine at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, sounds full alarm about the dramatic decrease in the number of sperm cells per milliliter.

This is a sign that something is wrong with the world, and that we must do something about it. So yes, I believe that it is a crisis that we should deal with now, before we reach a tipping point that may not be reversible, he tells The Guardian.

The counts were diving

Another study from 2017 has shown the same thing: that the sperm count has more than halved in the last 40 years

The 2017 research was flawed, as it only contained data from European, North American and Australian men.

The new research, on the other hand, contains data from a total of 53 countries, from all the world’s continents.

During the study, the researchers took into account factors such as age, and how long it had been since the man last ejaculated.

They also excluded men who struggle with fertility.

-These findings strongly suggest a significant decline in male reproductive health. This has serious implications beyond fertility concerns. Research into the causes and implications of this decline is urgently needed, the researchers write in the new study report.

Dangerously close to the critical limit

Previous studies have shown that men’s fertility is at risk if the number of sperm cells falls below 40 million per milliliter.

The new research therefore shows that it has fallen to 49 million.

Levine emphasizes that this is an average number, and says that this suggests that the percentage of men below the mentioned threshold has increased.

-Such a decline clearly shows a decline in the population’s ability to reproduce itself, he claims.

This affects sperm quality

In the western world in particular, there is a clear increase in lifestyle diseases and several of these can affect sperm quality in a negative direction, according to Lommelegen.

Obesity in particular has been shown to be a major culprit in this context.

Things like smoking and high alcohol consumption are also factors that can contribute to reducing both the quantity and quality of the sperm cells produced, in addition to the chemicals people are exposed to.

It is currently unknown what caused the sperm concentration to drop so drastically.

One of the researchers’ theories is that hormone-disrupting chemicals or other environmental factors come into play.

They also refer to other factors, such as smoking, drinking, obesity and poor diet.

Enormous consequenses

Professor Richard Sharpe is an expert on male reproduction at the University of Edinburgh.

He calls the new figures a “worldwide phenomenon”.

The drastic fall may mean that it takes longer for couples to have children – if they have children at all, he claims.

The professor points out that many couples wait to have children until the woman is in her 30s or 40s – that is, when the woman’s fertility has already been reduced due to age.

-The main point here is that this is terrible news for the fertility of couples.

He says this is not just a problem for couples trying to have children.

-It will also be a big problem for society in the next 50 years, as fewer and fewer young people can work and help the growing number of elderly people, he says.
