Yoga-terapi

Yoga is simply put the cure for pretty much all ailments and sicknesses; being in the body or mind. There can be no Unity(Yoga) without balance in Body, Mind and Soul. The practice of the various disciplines of Yoga brings about this balance.

Yoga is not a religion. It is a science, science of well-being, science of youthfulness, science of integrating body, mind and soul.

Yoga for pain relief

Outlined underneath is just an excerpt of what the correct practice of Yoga can alleviate or cure completely:

  • Sciatica
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • General joint pain

I think pretty much everybody reading this knows exactly how debilitating back and/or neck pain can be, and if you ever experienced serious Sciatica you definitely know it. It doesn’t matter how physically strong and able you are if the excrutiating pain from compressed nerves and strained muscles prevent you from your natural movement. Strained muscles, if not worked out properly can and will lead to chronic inflammation, and this is really not something we want in our system. It is estimated that about 40% of all people will at some point in their life experience Sciatica, and quite a lot of these cases unfortunately become chronic. It’s easy to go to the doctor for this, get some pain killers and hope for the best. The problem with pain killers is that they will very likely make you continue doing what brought on the pain in the first place, so they will very often make the matter worse. In many cases a physiotherapist can fix the issue, and in many cases you will just waste a whole lot of money for nothing. The worst thing you can do is to take the shortcut and get admitted to surgery, that even though it may help short term, might destroy your possibility to get rid of the pain once and forever. Shortcuts are never good, and especially not so when it comes to ones own health. Identify the problem, solve it by stopping to do what brought it on, and work on healing the parts that caused it.

My Yoga- credentials

Being born in 1973, and still functioning in every way as a 25 year old, except being a lot wiser; Yoga practice and of course a healthy diet and lifestyle in general is responsible for this; not the strength training. In fact unwise power training brought me a serious case of Sciatica- it was extremely painful, to the extent that it prevented me from sleeping more than maximum three hours at night, I could hardly walk and any sensible training in either martial arts or strength was out of the question. However, being the kind of person that needs to be 3/4 parts dead before I visit the doctor, and completely refuses to put any pain killers into my system, I once again turned to Yoga. When I finally discovered what was causing the excrutiating pain it took me no more than 2-3 weeks to move from hardly being able to walk, to walking a 20 km hike in the Bergen mountains- all without pain if I may say. Yoga was once again my saviour. What initially brought me into Yoga in my early twenties was debilitating lower back pain, coupled by neck pain(in runs a bit in the family). If I had to choose only ONE form of training it would be Yoga, not martial arts nor strength training- luckily I don’t need to choose; I can effortlessly do it all- every day if I want to.

The practice of the various pillars of Yoga; the Pranayama(breathing techniques), Dharana(Concentration), Asana(postures), Dhyana(meditations) etc. is also the main factor behind my Martial arts achievements.
